6888th Postal Battalion, WAVES, & WAC Units, also Dr. Mary Edwards Walker: female Medal of Honor
Back in 2017 when I was on my Medal of Honor Art Project trip for the pickups, I stopped in a Phillips #Route66 gas station to fill up the vehicle, as well as get something to eat, after going to the bathroom. When I was leaving the bathroom stall to go wash my hands and elder female had walked around where I was and we spoke, as she asked me what I was doing in Idaho. I explained to her about my Medal of Honor Art Project of which I had asked if she knew where two cemetery locations were for two different Medal of Honor recipients, as one #GPS coordinate had lead the path to drive into a cornfield; which I did not do, nor was I willing to literally drive through a field of growing corn. The other attempt to use the GPS to get to the location required that I had found online had been to a cemetery, which the sprinklers were on; however there was no one in the area, and the sprinklers were not in the ground though had hoses. That I knew meant there had to be someone who turned them on, though after driving around the location for over an hour; there had not been anyone who drove either way on the roadway the location was off to the side of. When I told the female about such she had told me she had never been outside of #Idaho, and barely had ever been outside much of the county limits.
As she and I spoke at the gas station in the bathroom area she then proceeded to discuss with me about one of her aunts who had been a part of the #6888PostalBattalion, and another who had been her sister who had been a part of the #WAVES Unit Battalion. When she discussed the details of what she had been told about those particular experiences from those two different females I thanked her as I had researched the individuals who had received and earned the #CongressionalMedalofHonor as much as I could, only finding one female Medal of Honor recipient. I had discussed my feelings of there being many females who would have completed the necessary requirements to earn such a Medal, and was a bit disheartened that at the point of time #DrMaryEdwardsWalker had been the only female who had been awarded the Medal of Honor.
Though Dr. #MaryEdwardsWalker had accomplished much having earned her way to being a doctor during the timeframe of the Civil War to be contracted to work with the #Union side of the #UnitedStatesofAmerica’s #Army branch, she had been captured by the Confederate Army when she was stationed near #Kansas as there had been an ambush which took out many throughout that particular base location. She was kept as a #POW #PrisonerofWar however when the #Confederates learned she was a Doctor and had medical training to save lives, she was treated better in the camp; which also gave her the ability to send correspondences to the Army Generals of the Union as well as then #PresidentAbrahamLincoln and his #WhiteHouse cabinet members. With that ability once the #UnionArmy had realized who Dr. Mary Edwards Walker had been there were return letters back and forth between, which Dr. Mary Edwards Walker had assisted the Union Army to be able to locate where she was being held captive; while also because of her ingenuity, she had given the details of the interior portions and the perimeters of the Confederate base, for the Union Army to be able to attack the Confederate’s base locations she told them about as there were times she had been transported to assist where the Confederates had demanded of her while she was in captivity. When the time came for the location where she was being held at during the time, the signal was given and as the Union Army advanced their attacks against that particular base of the Confederate Army; Dr. Mary Edwards Walker had been able to strike the enemies of the Confederate Army from within the area she was being held in, and thus taking out far more of the Confederate soldiers for the assist to the success of the Union Army to end and abolish slavery. As if it had not been for all of the letters she had sent to describe various areas an locations that she had been taken to during her time as a POW to be forced to assist the Confederates, Dr. Mary Edwards Walker would not have been able to describe the terrain as well as the details of entries and exits to their bases as well as some of the innermost sections thereof.
Though there was a bit of time which the Union Army was needing to work on Dr. Mary Edwards Walker’s wounds, she then was brought before the courts in #WashingtonDC to testify about what she had endured and survived; while also giving her testimony in reference to the letters she had sent, to be able to verify and clarify certain discrepancies which were from other individuals at the time who claimed they had done certain things and/or attempted to take credit for what Dr. Mary Edwards Walker had done all by herself. There had been some individual soldiers who had claimed she had been a traitor to the Union simply because of her being forced to tend to the wounds of the Confederacy though that label was removed from her, as her genuine actions proved beyond all records of doubt from the others of her truest form of patriotism to assist the Union Army of the United States of America and never once having taken arms against one of her fellow brothers in arms. She was able to prove as some of the other POWs of the camp, she had tended to their wounds while captive together; and that had been how the Confederates realized of her medical training and capabilities, to remove her from the POW section. However there had been several of those Prisoners of War who also added additional testimony, of Dr. Mary Edwards Walker sneaking out of the medical area to assist the Union soldiers, while also assisting the healthier ones to be able to escape and flee back to the Union Army to continue on with the good fight for the betterment of the country of the United States of America.
Though there was a point in time when her Medal of Honor had been revoked, later the Medal of Honor award was returned to Dr. Mary Edwards Walker. In such when found out in the spiritual realms a once time journalist had asked Dr. Mary Edwards Walker how it felt for that to be returned to her, which she had recounted the situations involved. As the journalist asked her why she wore male clothing as a female Dr. Mary Edwards Walker responded with something I still can laugh about to this day, “What do you mean? I purchased these clothes, and they are mine. I am wearing the clothes, which means they are women’s clothing.”
At the time of speaking with the female in the Phillips 66 gas station restroom before returning to get back to my Medal of Honor Art Project trip, I thought to myself wondering how I would be able to find the females from the WAVE and 6888th Battalion Units markers. When I returned back to Washington state after the #SolarEclipse of #August2017, I began researching where I could online only to find nothing in reference to their markers. I then made a few phone calls before someone gave me the suggestion to contact #Quantico, of which I had requested a friend of mine to take a look at my letter to ensure the wording made sense and was clear and concise. Thankfully she had been able to make some suggestions which I followed before mailing the letter to Quantico, and in turn today 9 August 2020 I had begun the official aspects about writing in more details about such. I had in 2019 sent a letter requesting of the White House, #Congress, #Senate though specifically Ms. #MelaniaTrump about if the possibility could be to get the females of the WAVE and the 6888th Battalion Units awarded for their endurance and bravery; which I did get a letter back from Ms. Melania, though I forgot it when I moved from #Washingtonstate back to the state of #Texas and the various aspects of the in-between as there was a bit going on. However I kept it on my refrigerator the whole time from when receiving that letter because of how amazing it was to receive such a response at the time of what was occurring, while also a reminder for myself to pay attention in different ways as best as I could remember to. I thought admittedly a bit selfishly, how amazing it would be to be a part of being able to assist such females to be awarded such and bring such amazing females from then as well as since who have accomplished much to be awarded the Medal of Honor as I know for a fact there are plenty of females who have accomplished the equivalent of earning the Medal of Honor for their actions during various situations. In my opinion it would be amazing to be able to witness such in person, and possibly even be allowed to be a part of the ceremony which the presentations occur.
